Kathy Jackson is a freelance writer with an avid interest in self-protection, self-defense, and the outdoors.

As a contribuing editor for Women and Guns magazine, she frequently authors reviews of different makes and models of firearms, and has had several articles published on topics related to firearms safety and training.

Kathy's volunteer work as an assistant instructor at the Firearms Academy of Seattle (FAS) has helped to educate and inform people about the legal ownership and responsible use of firearms. Greatly motivated by helping other people learn what they need to know in order to survive in extreme situations, Kathy has taken self-protection classes from Marty and Gila Hayes, Jim Cirillo, Massad Ayoob, Gabe Suarez, Marc MacYoung, Tony Blauer, and from several other excellent, but less-well known personal safety instructors. In doing so, she has become increasingly fascinated by the tendency of many gun owners and martial artists to be well-equipped to survive in the the unlikely event of a criminal attack, while being less well prepared for the more likely occurrence of a car accident or a winter storm. That's one of the reasons she came onboard with Equipped to Survive.

An avid camper who enjoys hiking, Kathy knows how important good gear can be, and how bad gear can cause problems that range from annoying to catastrophic. Motivated by helping people avoid such problems, and excited by the prospect of learning more herself, Kathy eagerly jumped at the opportunity to join Doug Ritter in reviewing handheld lighting equipment appropriate for outdoors survival.
