ALL GONE - NO LONGER AVAILABLE

Equipped To Survive Limited Edition Sebenza (Large pictured) Twist my arm hard enough and often enough and eventually you may get what you want. One of the most common requests I get is to purchase a Chris Reeve Sebenza with the Equipped To Survive logo like the one that was custom made for me by Chris some years ago and which I generally carry for everyday use. For some time now I have been talking with Chris about doing a very limited run of Equipped To Survive Sebenzas similar to my own knife and those plans have finally come to fruition. Now you can purchase one of these collectable very limited edition knives and support Equipped To Survive at the same time.

Due to numerous requests, the ETS Limited Edition Sebenza is now also available in the Small Sebenza. The total produced will still be limited to 25 units.

After I first saw one of Chris's custom decorated Sebenzas, I literally saved pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters from my lunch money for nearly two years to afford to have this custom Sebenza made with the Equipped To Survive logo. It was one of the first few Chris ever did with a logo after he had started with his decorated versions.

The Sebenza is one hell of a knife, tough as nails and a work of art in many respects. (Visit the Chris Reeve Knives Web site for more information on the Sebenza). Quality is on par with or exceeds that of the best custom knives and the combination of high-tech equipment and Chris's dedication to perfection ensure each one is a pleasure to hold and operate. There are no frills, per se, with the exception of the decoration and the attention to detail you won't find except on custom knives, and not even on all of them. Every blade is free-hand ground, each is individually fitted and every knife is sharpened by hand. The Sebenza is a deceptively simple and robust folder that is capable of anything you might ask from a knife and more, but incorporating all the finesse you'd expect from a collectable show piece.

The Sebenza is not inexpensive and to the uninitiated it may seem a lot to pay for a pocket knife, but there's a reason Chris is always backlogged with orders. There are also good reasons I selected it for my use, besides its beauty, a knife I'm willing to bet my life on. Obviously, if all you want is a Sebenza for everyday use with the same excellent construction, you can save a few bucks by getting a plain one without decoration, but that's not the point, is it? Bear in mind that my knife is used regularly and has been carried daily in my pocket for long periods of time. As those of you who have handled it will attest, the decoration has held up very well over the years, despite little in the way of babying it. So, you don't have to just put it away with hopes that it will appreciate in value, you can actually use the knife and it will serve you well and still look magnificent, if not quite as valuable to a collector. Bear in mind, however, the logo coloring is only a surface treatment and is subject to wear and abuse and cannot be redone if damaged.

The logo is cut into the titanium handle by a computer controlled mill. The logo is then colored using a process called electrolytic oxidation or anodizing. The titanium handle is immersed in a solution and as current is passed through the solution, oxygen is produced on the surface of the titanium. The oxygen reacts with the titanium to form a thin oxide layer. As the voltage is increased, the oxide layer grows in thickness. The colors that are produced are the direct result of how the light is refracted through the oxide layer. The end result is beautiful.

These Sebenzas will have the latest "super steel" blade of CPM S30V that Chris introduced to the world just over a year ago. It has taken the knifemaking world by storm since, performing even better than anyone expected; so in the end, this will be an even better knife and more capable knife than my own.

All the usual options such as partially serrated blade ($21), which in particular I do not recommend, are also available. Like all Chris Reeve knives, your ETS Sebenza will be warranteed for life (abuse not covered) and will be resharpened razor-sharp for free (if you don't trust yourself to do it) for as long as you own the knife, you pay only a modest shipping charge.

No more than 25 total of these unique Equipped To Survive Sebenzas will be produced and one or two will be reserved for future Equipped To Survive Foundation fund raising projects. The base price is $465 and $430, Large and Small, respectively, plus shipping (including insurance for shipping, see below) paid in full in advance. 10% of the purchase price will be donated to the Equipped To Survive Foundation to support this Web site. If someone wanted to, they could get one with a unique and beautiful Damascus steel blade, the result truly one of a kind. If you have to ask...well, okay, click here. The first of the knives have been delivered and have been very well received, I'm pleased to say.
