Volunteers Needed
Where do you want to go on ETS?

Equipped To Survive needs your help! Please contact Doug Ritter if you are interested in helping us out. While we always welcome offers of assistance in any form, we are desperately in need of volunteer assistance in the following areas:

Volunteer to help maintain and improve the various link pages on ETS: including the Manufacturer and Retail Sources pages and the Schools pages. Credit given on the masthead and byline.

Work will entail about 25% keeping links and contact information current and about 75% adding to the existing listings. You must be anal about accuracy and cynical enough to winnow the chaff from the grain for new listings. Extensive survival or SAR experience not required, though some would be helpful. Mostly must have a sincere interest in the subject and a few hours a week to dedicate to the job.

Basic HTML skills would be very helpful, but not required. Nothing fancy, you'd pretty much just be following the existing template and this can be taught in a brief session over the phone or online. No Frontpage or similar WYSIWYG programs. Notepad or similar raw HTML coding required, again, very simple, no HTML experience required.

Volunteer to help maintain and improve the Book and Video Review pages on ETS: Credit given on the masthead and byline.

Updating and adding to the book and video review pages requires at least a moderate amount of survival and/or SAR experience and background. This would involve writing brief reviews of books and videos and rating them with a critical eye and in accordance with existing ETS standards and philosophies. Review copies of the books and videos will be made available, you don't have to purchase these. Anyone interested will be asked to submit sample reviews and ratings.

Basic HTML skills would be very helpful, but not required. Nothing fancy, you'd pretty much just be following the existing template and this can be taught in a brief session over the phone or online. No Frontpage or similar WYSIWYG programs. HomeSite, Notepad, or similar raw HTML coding required, again, very simple, no HTML experience required.

Volunteer Graphic Designer/Image Processing: requires expertise using Photoshop, and perhaps also Corel Draw, or equivalent image processing and graphics program(s). Primary duties would include processing digital images for inclusion in articles. Also, making icons and graphics for inclusion on the Web site, in articles and for presentations. Fast Internet connection very helpful. Credit given on the masthead.

Volunteer CGI/Perl/ASP/Javascript Programmer/Scripter: to write scripts to develop some CGI and/or ASP database driven applications for the ETS Web site. This would help make the site easier to maintain and easier for visitors to find what they want. Credit given on the masthead.

Volunteer with knowledge of Perl or PHP and MySQL and HTML: to update and/or upgrade Survival Forum software and manage technical issues. Credit given on the masthead.
