04/07/24 01:02 PM Bad review of a great backpack.. by quick_joey_small

I never thought I'd see a poor review by Luke at Outdoor Gear Review.
This is it:

Though unlike me, who was left totally confused by the constant references to; "for the price", you have me to do the background checking and all the reviews agree, it's a terrific pack at any price.
Not; 'only if you don't have a litte more to spend'.

Apart from that it's his normal thorough good sense.

I ordered the 50 litre version on Friday and it arrived this morning (Sunday).
BY FAR the most comfortable pack I've ever used!
Don't understand his minor criticisms. The inside of the straps felt smooth to me and a belt on a pack can't be too stiff.
Like all the reviewers, I worry over the pack length zip, but they've failed on no one and the pack comes with a 10 year warranty. And the zip really makes packing a dream.
Packs have come a long way since I last bought one. This is his idea of not light? If that little means so much to you, eat a few less calories.

Best of all; leaving the most remarkable feature to last:
This costs £59.99.

Are other packmakers taking us for a ride?

04/05/24 05:48 PM New York Earthquake by adam2

Bit surprised that no reports on here about this. Widely reported on UK media.
Stated to be 4.8 magnitude. Early reports suggest no loss of life and only minor injuries.
This of course may change as more reports come in.

04/01/24 11:54 AM Amanda Nenigar found dead by Ren

This is pretty bad, Amanda called 911 and gave precise coords of her location, and it appears the dispatcher doesn't understand the degree and minute coords system, and "corrected" her saying it's decimal.

03/30/24 09:59 AM Car window breakers don't work. by quick_joey_small

Article in the Washington Post on escaping a car in the water:

Advise I didn't know.

You have till the car submerges to get out. After that you are rarely going to make it.

Car window breakers won't work. After you sink, even a hammer won't work.

Open the windows not the doors.

Don't get out first push the kids out (biggest first).

https://www.washingtonpost.com/travel/tips/car-underwater-escape-bridge-collapse/

Frightening link to an AAA study in it.
Contains the following:

'an increasing number of vehicles are being built with laminated
side window glass, which is nearly impossible to break.'
